Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Undertakes Strategic Advocacy Visit to Adamawa State

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has completed a significant high-level advocacy visit to Adamawa State, strengthening partnerships aimed at improving pharmaceutical services, drug security, and healthcare delivery. The delegation, led by the PSN President, included some of the most distinguished leaders in the pharmaceutical profession in Nigeria.
The visiting team comprised:

2. Pharm. (Prof.) Cyril Usifo, FPSN – Immediate Past President
3. Pharm. Ahmed Yakasai, FPSN, mni – Past President
4. Pharm. Olumide Akintayo, FPSN – Past President
5. Pharm. Gafar ’Lanre Madehin, FPSN – National Secretary
6. Pharm. (Mrs) Scholastica Mnena Lan, FPSN – National Chairman, ALPS
Their presence underscored the importance and national significance of the engagement.
Stakeholders’ Meeting at State Supplies Management Agency
The delegation commenced its itinerary at the Adamawa State Health Supplies Management Agency, where they were welcomed by key the executive Secretary Adamawa State Health Supplies Management Agency Pharmacist Dauda Teri kwaghe
A welcome address was delivered by Pharm. Talba, Director, Pharmaceutical Services, State Primary Health Care Development Agency and Chairman, PSN Adamawa State.
He emphasized the need for continued collaboration to strengthen drug supply chain systems within the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Agency, Pharm. Dauda Teri Kwaghe, the first-ever Pharmacy Consultant in Adamawa State, delivered goodwill remarks highlighting state efforts to improve access to quality medicines.
Additional goodwill messages came from the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Pharmaceutical Matters, Pharm. Nneka Okwuma, and the Director, Pharmaceutical Services, State Ministry of Health, Pharm. Titus, who both commended the PSN for providing visionary leadership in the sector.
The PSN President, Pharm. Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, delivered a detailed mission statement stressing improved pharmaceutical governance, enhanced regulation, and the urgent need for investment in pharmaceutical training and capacity building across the state.
The team paid homage to the Lamido of Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, at his palace in Yola.
They were received by Galadima Adamawa, who conveyed the monarch’s goodwill and expressed appreciation for the Society’s continued contribution to national health.
As part of the visit, the PSN President donated essential medicines to the Palace Clinic, strengthening the Society’s gesture of support to the traditional institution and the surrounding community.
The delegation proceeded to Government House, Yola, where the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Pharmaceutical Matters officially introduced the PSN mission.
In his address, the PSN President, Pharm. Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, presented three major advocacy requests to His Excellency:
1. Establishment of a Pharmacy Training Institution in Adamawa State to expand the state’s pharmaceutical workforce and produce skilled professionals.
2. Approval for Adamawa State to Host the Next PSN National Conference in Yola, a move expected to attract national stakeholders, boost local economy, and enhance professional development.
3. Directive to the Ministry of Environment to Cease Inspection of Pharmacy Premises to eliminate overlapping regulatory functions and ensure that only statutory pharmaceutical bodies carry out such inspections.
He commended His Excellency for his exemplary leadership in health-sector reforms and reaffirmed PSN’s willingness to partner with the state for continuous improvement of healthcare outcomes.
In his response, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Executive Governor of Adamawa State, expressed his appreciation for the PSN’s visit and the contributions of pharmacists nationwide.
The Governor approved all the requests presented by the PSN leadership, including:
Establishing a Pharmacy Training Institution
Hosting the next PSN National Conference in Yola
Directing the Ministry of Environment to stop inspecting pharmacy stores
He emphasized his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and fully supporting the growth of the pharmaceutical sector in the state.
In recognition of his outstanding support, the PSN President presented His Excellency with a Plaque of Honour naming him a Pharmacy Friendly Governor, alongside a first aid box.
The visit ended with a debriefing session at Lamido Hall, City Green Hotel Yola, where the delegation reviewed the achievements of the day’s engagements and reaffirmed ongoing collaboration with the state government and institutions.
The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the Government and people of Adamawa State and pledged continued support toward ensuring quality healthcare services for all residents.
